Aims of the LLVSSG

The Lord-Lieutenant's Voluntary Sector Support Group for West Sussex is an initiative of the Lord-Lieutenant, Mrs Susan Pyper. Being sure that the wide-ranging contacts available through the Lieutenancy in West Sussex could be put to beneficial use, the Lord-Lieutenant set up the group with a number of Deputy Lieutenants representing each corner of the county with the general aim of finding ways to support voluntary activities in the community through the good offices of the West Sussex Lieutenancy.

The current Voluntary Sector Support Group comprises:

Mrs Carole Hayward, JP DL

Mrs Margaret Bamford, OBE DL

Mrs Margaret Collins, DL

Mrs Lilian Holdsworth, MBE JP DL

Mr Simon Knight, DL

Mrs Caroline Nicholls, DL

Group Captain Derek North, DL

Mr Alan Tait, MBE JP DL

Mr John Williams, MBE DL

The LLVSSG meets several times a year in addition to many local sub-group meetings and activities. Among the functions carried out by the group are:

  • Finding office holders for charitable and voluntary organisations within the county — patrons, trustees, chairmen, treasurers, mentors, etc;
  • Promoting awareness of voluntary organisations in West Sussex;
  • Assessing recommendations for Queen's Awards for Voluntary Service;
  • Working with local authorities to support voluntary organisations;
  • Working with businesses in the county to find ways to enhance their profiles through support for voluntary organisations.

If you think the Lord-Lieutenant's Voluntary Sector Support Group for West Sussex may be able to assist your organisation, please refer to the contact page.
